Well, thanks to Celia I can now continue writing. I somehow forgot how to get to the place that allows you to write a new entry. Yay for getting confused!
It has been lovely to be in LA and have a chance to visit with Matt and Joi. Unfortunately for the past few days there has been unhappy news about Grandpa Herb (Dan's father) who has Alzheimer's and lives in an assisted living facility in Oakland. He is currently in the ICU with heart and lung issues and stable for the moment, but of course he is 89 and anything can happen. In true Maccoby fashion, Matt swung into action, getting all the information from the medical people, asking all the right questions and keeping everyone informed. Gina just returned from Alex's graduation and last night flew to Oakland to be with her mom and dad; Matt will also be going soon. It is difficult for me to be going away while all this is happening, but of course my love and prayers are here with Herb and Babette.
The LA weather has been gorgeous during my stay - Joi says it is unusual to have this summer weather at this time, but I am not complaining. The day I arrived we were able to watch some of Micah's Little League game, which was lots of fun. Yesterday Joi and I went to the Getty Museum (*SIGH - it is so beautiful!) and in addition to seeing a wonderful exhibit on Parisian life in the 1600s and some beautiful decorative arts exhibits, we wandered through the gorgeous gardens. This morning after we take Micah to school we are going to the Farmer's Market - always a treat for me!
Josh and Micah have been showing me their pets - two bearded dragons. They live in a large glass box and are actually pretty cute and sweet. Apparently they can grow quite big and at some point will need larger digs. Last night Josh fed them worms, which are kept in the fridge until needed. Usually they eat lettuce, cilantro (well, this IS California) and things like that, but the worms are a special treat. They REALLY like those worms. It was actually pretty interesting to watch them get so excited, but personally I would prefer chocolate.
Can't believe I am really leaving tonight! I am very excited to finally be going, but of course not looking forward to the looooong flight, but since that is the only way to get there I "mustn't grumble". Miss and love you all and will remember how to post later!
Hooray! Great job mommy!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the blogoshpere! I can't wait to read about your Australian adventures!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great adventure!
ReplyDeleteI am impressed that you and Celia have created this blog - I am intimidated just by the little button below the comment that invites me to select a profile from several sources, only about two of which I can even begin to imagine what they are. I hope that is not a requirement for making comments.
I look forward to news along the way. You will find that this is also a valuable record to stir your own memories in the days ahead.

P.S. It insists on a profile - so maybe you'll just get an email for now. Oops - aopparently I have an existing Google account. Who knew??
